i am heather harmon.
i love building and growing innovative companies.
tl;dr ~
i am a 4x founder.
i have run several product teams as a nontechnical founder or executive.
i cofounded RedDoor which was acquired by Opendoor.
i am a HousingWire Vanguard.
i am a proptech expert and panelist speaker.
i am an angel investor, advisor, and consultant to dozens of early and growth stage companies.
i am an author, sitting on tons of content that is being formatted, compiled, and launched.
early roots ~
i am a third generation real estate broker with over 100 years of collective family brokerage experience. my grandmother was the first licensed female contractor in California and i grew up in real estate offices, title companies, and developing subdivisions when technology was correction tape in a typewriter - which didn't work on a triplicate purchase agreement. at fifteen years old, i was one of the first employees at an early stage proptech company, where I worked on a DOS database to provide the first iteration of automated tenant screening.
education and work ~
i attended UC San Diego and University of Washington and graduated with a pre-medicine degree and a minor in comparative literature. i love science and writing…
along the way i freelanced as a journalist, taught others how to create medicines out of herbs, and worked in various startups and early stage companies as a co-founder or executive in product and operations. in reflecting back, I recently realized that i never sought these jobs, they sought to add me to the team after meeting me.
most recently i co-founded and sold a venture backed proptech company to a public company, where I worked with the executive and product leadership on the complexities of mortgage in the digitized consumer home ownership journey.
while scaling the startup, i attended UC Berkeley Haas School of Business to study ai - where science and writing (among other things) collide.
proptech passions ~
fundamentally, i believe in RealEstate 3.0 - that it is here, but not evenly distributed.
i am passionate about technology and innovation solving the problems of bias, equity, sustainability and accessibility in housing.
i believe there is a different mindset about home ownership that is not yet fully realized, and the pandemic powered it with #workfromanywhere flexibility, cost of living and affordability concerns, and quality of life expectations changing not just for younger generations.
it is important to me to be a part of bringing diversity into the leadership of the housing industry both in the operators and technologists, but also the investors. i embrace having controversial opinions when equity and human rights are at stake.
and more ~
i am a mother to two incredible young adults whom i respect tremendously.
i am an author, a poet, and shower singer.
i am a practicer of yoga.
i am a lover of bees and a connoisseur of cacao.
i am an aspiring owner and rider of n+1 mountain bikes.
